Dan Leonard Scholarship ​

 

Open to high school seniors and college students seeking degrees in the fields of fisheries, aquaculture, and aquatic biology. Scholarships are awarded up to twice per year depending on qualified applicants.

Florida Aquaculture Association Dan Leonard Scholarship Program

APPLICATION AND REQUIREMENTS

The FLAA scholarship fund is established to provide tuition and books only, to be distributed semi-annually. The FLAA Board of Directors has established the following criteria for consideration and selection:

Applicants for consideration must:

1. Must be in the last semester of high school or in college and have a 2.5 overall GPA through current school work;

2. Must be or become a full-time degree-seeking student in the field of fisheries science, aquaculture or aquatic biology; 3. No individual will be awarded this scholarship more than two times;

4. Provide two letters of recommendation from high school or college teachers / educators;

5. Submit a one-page essay explaining the applicant’s educational goals and reasons for desiring a scholarship;

6. Send this application along with a copy of the applicant’s transcript, recommendation letters, and essay to the FLAA office by July 1 for the Fall semester and October 1 for the Spring semester.

 

Applicants meeting these requirements will be considered at an FLAA Board meeting. The scholarship committee will weigh the applications, using the GPA and other information from the application, and make a recommendation to the Board for a decision. Applicants not meeting the above-stated minimum requirements need not apply as they shall not be considered.
